While attending Horticultural college back in '77, I had some exposure to
building and designing a garden for the blind.
Since then, I have often thought back to those days and wanted to build a
similar project.
Close your eyes for a moment and let your mind "feel" the experiences...
- What do you hear?....Birds singing, wind in
the leaves rustling, wind in the pine needles whispering,
water babbling and splashing, your feet on the ground, Bees buzzing.
- What do you feel?.....Textures of different
plants, are you walking on grass or stone? You pass by the end of a hedge
and an extra puff of wind gently pushes against your face.
- What do you smell?...There are many flowers
with their own distinct perfume. Imagine brushing against a lavender bush or
picking a leaf from a Lemon Geranium and hold it close to your face.
- And taste?....Picking fruit that is in
season and losing yourself in its freshness.
- What do you see?...I truly hope that when
you leave the garden, that you leave with a new vision.
If you have any advise or comments, please, drop me a line, I'd love to
discuss issues, answer questions and share my horticultural experience.
